If you did not obtain your original nursing qualification in a certified 212(r) country (see the official CGFNS website) then IELTS is essential for working in the USA
However, you need to pass NCLEX-RN first before you are exempt from taking IELTS.
If you original nursing qualification was in one of the following countries then you do NOT need to pass IELTS according to the 212(r) statement are as follows:
- Australia
- Barbados
- Canada (including only the following approved Quebec schools: McGill University and Dawson College in Montreal, Vanier College in St Laurent, John Abbot College in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Heritage College in Gatineau
- Ireland
- Jamaica
- New Zealand
- South Africa
- Trinidad/Tobago
- United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales)
- The United States of America
